Julz ponders MySpace
I've been talking with some friends and my son about MySpace for awhile. One discussion we had about why MySpace remains consistent at the top of the SN site heap is that MySpace was really the first "home" for the masses of Internet "homeless." Then, not only did MySpace provide us all homes, it connected us to our friends, the music scene, etc. Then it provided the average joe in the music business or media production a home as well. So new SN services may arise, but MySpace remains our "home;" none of us wants to move all of our investment, furniture, friends, productions to a new home. We may get a summer home (Vox), an office (LinkedIn), a dorm (Facebook), a beachhouse (Virb), a cafe spot (Pownce, Plaxo, Friend Feed) a night club (Upcoming, Socializr) a second life (SecondLife) etc., but we seem to be keeping a home at MySpace. So how will Google Friend Connect fit in this mix?

RETAzens, this is a muy easy wiki to do stuff in. You can easily add a new page on the left, even pages within pages. Pages can be formatted for pictures, events, etc. and you can add widgets (video, rss, etc.). Have fun!

I am excited about creating podcasts. I found a website about students creating podcasts. The site also has competitions. Next year, I am going to have my students research a topic and then create a podcast to educate their peers about their subject of research. Susan

Can anyone recommend free software to convert RSS feeds for my iPod?

At our school we don't pod cast, but we do audio cast (with Olympus audio recorders $60.00-$70.00 each --on say tiger direct or amazon -- microphone included, view product at http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1170). The recorder has a usb as part of it that connects directly to your computer, the only disadvantage is that we have to convert the .wma files to .mp3 before posting, but we have found that very doable. Our teachers post their class recordings on a website or in their moodle course pages. They won't automatically be updated on their portable equipment, but they can listen to them on their home computers, at school, put them on their thumb drives/portable media.

What is RSS? (Rich Site Summary)
Believe it or not, there is a great webpage called whatisrss.com with a fab explanation.

For me, it simply means that if I add the right widgets and feeds, my webpages are updating themselves with news, information, articles, media, and stuff purely for fun that is important and interesting to me. Let's go to my blog (Julz Blog) to see this in action...
